Asset Identification
Learning Objective
Apply correct identifiers (serial number, asset tag, RMA) to each incoming asset.
Why It Matters
Identifier errors cascade. A misread serial number creates phantom inventory, blocks RMAs, and corrupts customer reporting for months.
Training Content
Three identifiers, one source of truth
Verify the customer-provided serial against the physical label, then apply the internal asset tag and link the RMA in the system before moving the asset.
When labels are unreadable
If the OEM label is damaged, photograph the asset, attach a Tier-2 label, and flag for Exception Handling — never guess a serial.
